| What is "Celtic"? Celtic Spirituality. As a form of the New age quest, J.R.R. Tolkien, author of The Lord and the Rings, said that the term Celtic was a "magic bad into which anything may be put and out of which almost anything may come..." so, this modern paganism is a form of the "New Age" quest. Celtic Christianity.Celtic Christianity flourished in the British Isles from about 400 to 1,000 AD. Often Celtic Christanity is explained as the opposite of the worst features of Dark Ages Roman catholicism. While some examples can be found, the above is overly simplistic and a grave distortion of history. The best scholarship today shows that there was no "Celtic Christianity." It was quite orthodox with Rome, had a strong monastery base with a few twists which fit their situation and was quite evangelistic in an unorthodox way. There is a resurgence among Christians who are returning to that ancient style. We are a part of that movement.
